
In terms of ingredients, Shakeshaft suggests looking for humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin to draw moisture into the skin, emollients like squalane for smoothing, and occlusives like shea butter to trap in moisture and help calm irritation.

While they can’t actually reverse the appearance of wrinkles, “foundations that are formulated to moisturize, plump, and help smooth the skin’s surface can soften the look of them,” says Michele Shakeshaft, National Pro Artist for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. Lighter formulas are less likely to settle into any texture imperfections, and hydrating formulas obviously aid with dryness,” she adds.
